Recent legislation amendments have created the authority for dietitians (among others) to perform diverse roles on a time limited basis as part of COVID-19 pandemic response:
- Contact tracing as authorized by the Disease Control Regulations accessed here..
- Specimen collection for COVID-19 testing with the proper organizational policy/procedures and employer provided training and support as authorized by the Laboratory Licensing Regulations accessed here. Saskatchewan Health Authority’s medical directive authorizing dietitians (among others) to do swabbing without a client specific order accessed .here
- Administer publicly funded influenza vaccinations and extend both COVID-19 and influenza vaccination administration by non-traditional immunizers (including dietitians employed by SHA, ISC or NITHA) until March 31, 2023 by Ministerial Order (accessed here) dated April 4, 2022.
