Effective October 1, 2021 and in compliance with our registration policy on interjurisdictional practice (accessed here), dietitians licensed in other jurisdictions both in Canada and other countries who use their RD credential to provide services to residents of Saskatchewan (virtually or in person) are required to be licensed with SCD. Two categories of licensure will be available to Dietitians providing interjurisdictional virtual services to Saskatchewan residents: temporary and full.
Temporary licensure is only open to dietitians who are licensed and in good standing in another Canadian dietetic regulatory body who require licensure on a short-term basis (not to exceed three months, extendable at the discretion of the Registrar). Fees are payable by the month ($30.85/month). As a condition of temporary licensure, it is mandatory that Dietitians remain licensed and in good standing in the jurisdiction where they were registered in at the time of their application to SCD. This includes participating in the continuing competence/quality assurance program in their “home” jurisdiction.
Dietitians who license in the full practicing category will pay the full amount of the licensing fee ($370 for full year or $185 half year rate if after Oct. 1) and be required to fully participate in SCD’s continuing competence program.
SCD will waive the fees associated with temporary licensure if the dietitian is providing interjurisdictional virtual services as part of short term follow up care for health care services received out of province (ie. client has surgery in another province and the dietitian does follow up care by phone or email when the client returns home to Saskatchewan) or if the service is not available in Saskatchewan. Dietitians who are requesting the fees to be waived will be required to fill out a form (accessed here) to verify if they meet the eligibility set out in the policy.
